Modern commemorative silver coins of France

Modern French silver commemorative coins have been produced since 2002 by the Paris Mint, a commercial company controlled by the country’s government. The institution has a distinctive sign that applies to all coins of its own production in order to avoid fakes, a French horn that on some samples can be viewed only with the help of a loupe. Also silver coins of France are famous for their unique design, developed for each sample exclusive. This, as well as a high sample is of metal (almost all coins are made of .900 samples material), makes French commemorative coins exceptionally attractive for collectors and investors.

Interesting Facts

  • Commemorative coins have been minted in France since 1982, when it was decided to issue a coin in honor of Leon Gambetta, the former Prime Minister of the country. At the very beginning, these were small coins from nickel, but with the transition from franc to euro, the Mint began to produce more and more gold and silver coins. Today a lot of coins of different series are produced in France, each of them has a unique design.
  • When the economic crisis erupted in 2008, the Mint plans were almost ripped off, as there was a serious lack of silver. However, there were no problems with the supply of gold, so instead of silver, the manufacturer issued the additional batch of modern gold commemorative coins.
  • In 2014-2016 the Mint of Paris reissued coins of the famous “Rooster” series the production of which was stopped before the First World War interrupted all plans for release. Despite the fact that traditionally these coins are produced in gold, this time the manufacturers have prepared two variants of silver “Rooster” − 100 and 10 euro denomination. Also it is possible to issue silver coins of the updated “Angel” series.
